Beatriz Milhazes: Rigor and Beauty

Guggenheim Museum, New York, 2025

Steeped in her Brazilian cultural heritage, Beatriz Milhazes’s vibrant, inventive abstract paintings are at once captivating and curious. Her innovative “collaging” process—combining solid paint transfer shapes with other found materials such as shopping bags and candy wrappers—invites close inspection beyond the bold, colorful, long-view fields. This exhibition was mainly comprised of collection works from 2013 but also included select loans and collages from 2021, further showcasing an impressive span of dedication to geometric abstraction.
