For his intervention on the Cantor Roof Garden Commission, Argentinian artist Adrián Villar Rojas combed through the Met’s collection, amassing stories, relics, and masterpieces across time periods and cultures to portray an entirely new narrative. Even food, live humans, and animals became characters in this new main event. Each sculpture was 3D scanned, digitally stitched together with other digital models to create new forms, milled or printed, and finished with a slightly dusted monochromatic finish. For this project I was responsible for the coordination of production of the fabrication process, working with the Met’s in-house photo team to obtain initial scans of objects to final output. I also collaborated with the artist to extend the existing pergola, add new benches and planting, and install a new tiled flooring to the entire roof deck to create this highly immersive installation.
